Road to Marriage: Beginnings
Brydon and I met when we were the tender age of 14. 2007, to be exact! This year, 2021… marks half our lives being in each others lives. Half. Next year, October 2, 2022 will mark 10 years of us being partners in life and is currently our wedding date!! Writing all of this right now, I have butterflies! I feel eternally grateful that I’ve met my partner in life, for life and I can’t wait to take the next step in our lives together!
A lot of folks have asked me about the way Brydon proposed. Well, it all started when I was in Jamaica — the last trip I took before the world locked down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in February 2020. Hear me out! What I know now is that Brydon didn’t come because he had some other plans that required him to save and immense amount of money — buying the engagement ring.
While vacationing with my family, Brydon called my mom (without my knowledge) and asked my mom if she would allow him to take my hand in marriage and her answer was simple: OF COURSE! Brydon then made plans for my return that didn’t go quite as planned…
He planned to take me to dinner, had friends on standby to take reaction photos and everything but then my flight was delays THREE WHOLE HOURS! I didn’t get home until close to midnight! That’s when plan 2 went into motion and Brydon drove me to where we met when we were 14. Sandalwood Heights Secondary School. He drove me there under the guise that he went there while I was gone and had to show me something funny (remember: it is February and I just returned from JAMAICA… I was not having it!)
He started looking around but couldn’t find this thing.. that’s when I said
You know what, I’m heading back to the car! I’m FREEZING!
I turned around, started heading back and that’s when he said
I found it.
I turned around, and there he was on his knee.
This is the place you fell in love with me first. It felt only right to bring you back here to ask you to marry me. Will you marry me?
Speechless, all I could say is YES! And then the world shutdown. Haha… what a rollercoaster of emotions this year has been. It’s definitely been a bumpy road to marriage but we’re in this for better or for worse, right?
