Back to School, anyone?

I never thought I would be a mature student! Are you or have you been one yourself?

I went to university and college at the same time so I know WORK! I balanced 3 jobs while I was at it too so I understand sacrifice and let me tell you…

both graduations were the best days of my life, but also the scariest!

I had all the normal concerns: What am I going to do? How am I going to get into my field? Will I be taken seriously? How do I set myself up to get to my ultimate destination? WHO AM I WITHOUT SCHOOL AND A SCHEDULE!!!?

I also had the concerns that comes with being a Black woman trying to get into a space where… there aren’t many of us. Will opportunities come my way? Will the systemic “quota” be filled and thus no opportunities will be available? Will I get a position based on FILLING a quota instead of my grit, ability to work under pressure and talents?

Wait, why am I doing this again!?!

The answer is simple. Despite all those feelings, despite the imposter moments I experience far too often that TRY to bring me to my knees… I have always come to the conclusion that the only one who loses if I DON’T bet on myself… is me. Only me. So… naturally I decided to head back to school and take on a male dominated field.

And I’ll be doing it with a smile.

So what do you think? Have you had some of these thoughts yourself? Have you ever thought about switching careers and if so what is it going to take for you to do that? Are you ready for the challenge? Let me know in the comments!

Fo(REV)er yours,

Steph🤍
